The Charity for the 2018 lunch was Bloodwise.

The Women of Scotland Lunch 2018 was held on 27 April at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow and raised in excess of £25,000 for this year’s charity, Bloodwise

The prestigious line-up of speakers entertained the guests expertly with anecdotes and moving sentiments, following the theme ‘Blood is Thicker than Water’. STV Presenter Laura Boyd, who has herself suffers from Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia began with a heart-rending account of how the disease has affected her, followed by an entertaining speech and poetry reading by Scots Makar, Jackie Kay. Finally three of the ‘real’ Calendar Girls – Angela Knowles, Tricia Stewart and Christine Clancy, gave a poignant, and at times funny, story behind the naked calendar. As the inspiration behind the highly acclaimed film, calendar and stage show they are passionate about raising funds and awareness of blood cancers.

As well as a delicious lunch and sparkling wine reception sponsored by Nyetimber, there was a prize draw with the top prize won by Margie Falconer – a stunning vintage double cluster Joseph Bonnar ring; Elizabeth Simpson won dinner, bed and breakfast at the renowned Arisaig House; Carolyn Jameson won dinner, bed and breakfast at Fonab Castle Hotel & Spa; Mrs Alma Wolfson won a tour round the Nyetimber Vineyard and lunch for 8; Audrey Lumsden won a stunning, specially designed Sheila Fleet Jewellery necklace; Elspeth Orcharton won dinner, bed and breakfast at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow while Flora Rennie won a bed and breakfast voucher at the Radisson Blu as well, and Linda Macdougall won a £50 Loch Fyne Oysters voucher.
Well done to you all!

The money raised will go directly to Bloodwise to fund ground-breaking research in Scotland. The mission of Bloodwise is to beat all blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Bloodwise is a blood cancer charity dedicated to funding research into all blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, as well as offering information and support for blood cancer patients. The proceeds of the lunch will be used to fund a research project in Scotland.

The Bloodwise vision is simple: they’re here to beat blood cancer.

Their mission: We stop people dying from blood cancer, we make patients’ lives better, and we look for ways to stop blood cancer happening in the first place. We won’t stop until every single person with blood cancer survives and no one dies from blood cancer again. 100% survival, nothing less. We make people’s lives better People with blood cancer should be able to live their lives to the full: free from the fear of relapse; free from side effects and free to do the things they love. We’ll work to improve quality of life until blood cancer no longer has an impact. We look for ways to stop people getting blood cancer in the first place If there are ways to prevent blood cancer, we’ll find them. We’ll uncover how blood cancer works, so we can stop it happening.
