The 58th Women of Scotland Lunch will be held on 24 April 2015 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Argyle Street, Glasgow.
This year the committee agreed that the proceeds of the lunch will be donated to Kidney Research UK (KRUK)
KRUK is dedicated to research into the causes and prevention of kidney disease and the charity funds and delivers life-saving research, improves treatments for people with kidney disease and increases awareness of kidney health.
The funds raised at the Women of Scotland Lunch will be used to fund the research undertaken by Dr Paddy Mark, a leading expert on the serious cardiovascular complications of chronic kidney disease, based at Glasgow University.
Speakers will include Dame Jacqueline Wilson, the award winning author who herself has kidney disease. The author of the best loved children’s books will explain how this affects her life.
Dame Sue Bruce is the Chief Executive of The City of Edinburgh Council and she will also address the audience of around 350 women on the theme of ‘Taking Difficult Decisions’. Dame Sue has herself faced many difficult decisions during her time in Local Government but none more so than when she took up her current post five years ago. The city was in crisis over its ailing tram project and it was thanks to Dame Sue that this is now complete and functioning.
Miss Lorna Marson who is a Trustee with Kidney Research UK is an academic transplant surgeon at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. She is involved in the development of kidney transplantation nationally and promotes organ donation through public engagement, not least through undertaking charitable events with some of her patients.
The lunch will be chaired by Viv Lumsden, the former BBC and STV broadcaster who is Honorary Guest Chairman until 2017 (at least!).
